Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report reporting live from Birdland in New York City.
This first edition of 2025 features pianist and composer Omar Sosa. Over the past three decades, Omar has brought his unique piano styles and different ensembles to music fans all over the world. The Camaquey, Cuba native has amassed four Grammy Award nominations and collaborated with musicians Adam Rudolph, Seckou Keita, and Paolo Fresu.
In this episode, you'll see Omar's debut at the famed Birdland Jazz Club with his group Quarteto Americanos featuring Sheldon Brown on multi-reeds, Ernesto Mazar Kindlan on bass, and Josh Jones on drums.
Omar is also featured in the documentary titled "Omar Sosa's 88 Well-Tuned Keys" directed by Soren Sorensen. The soundtrack is also available on Sosa's Ota Records. In this interview Omar and I sit down and discuss his musical origins, his influences, and the impact of his compositions and live performances.
