Renata Tebaldi had lifelong friendships with many of her colleagues. Here, I've collected some of the greatest Verdi scenes from her complete studio recordings. These scenes feature many of my favourite singers such as Cesare Siepi, Carlo Bergonzi, Ettore Bastianini, Mario del Monaco, Giulietta Simionato, Cornell McNeil, Nicolai Ghiaurov, Aldo Protti, Enzo Sordello, Gianni Poggi. All these singers sang with passion, technique, excellent phrasing, diction and glorious voices! The scenes allow us to enjoy the interaction between Renata Tebaldi and her colleagues. It's also fascinating to notice the subtle differences between her Violetta and her Aida for example; the two Leonoras and the two accused wives, Elisabetta and Desdemona.
Missing here are three Verdi roles Tebaldi sang live but didn't record in studio (Alice Ford, Giovanna D'Arco, Maria Boccanegra), the soprano part in the Verdi Requiem/Te Deum, as well as her Amelia in Ballo in Maschera, which she recorded in studio. I hope to make another collection with scenes from her live performances in the future but in this upload we can enjoy the excellent studio quality of these legendary recordings.
