I've been having this ATV hard to start when cold issue for almost one year.

I replaced the fuel petcock. I clean the carburetor and replaced the diagphram inside the carburetor. These issues were a problem but I still hadn't discovered why was this atv hard to start when cold. Also once I had the ATV started and running the problem wasn't over. The ATV would stall randomly as well. I was beginning to get fed up with my Suzuki Eiger 400.

Then I received a comment from a viewer on another of my ATV repair videos.

He told me about the Suzuki Eiger 400 stator flywheel problem. Apparently it is common for the flywheel magnets to come loose on the Suzuki Eiger 400 models and the Artic Cat 400 models which basically had the same flywheel. His comment was on my mind but at the same time my ATV seemed to improve with the recent carburetor fix and I was fine tuning the fuel/air mixture on the carburetor. That's when I heard that sound of metal clank in the motor on the left side.

So immediately I thought, I think it's a flywheel magnet that made that sound.

That's when I decided to take the left side engine cover off to get access to the stator flywheel. Sure enough I found that all six flywheel magnets were loose. Luckily the stator wasn't damaged.

So this was my ignition problem all along. This was why my ATV wont start. Once I replaced the stator flywheel with a new improved stator flywheel, the ATV started immediately. It is such a weird problem to have. I never thought it would have been something so complicated. I'm so grateful that viewer commented on my video and shared this information with me.

Next time you find your atv is hard to start when cold, consider this stator flywheel problem if you have a Suzuki Eiger 400 or Artic Cat 400. It's a common problem with models...
