Kokum Kadi | Sol Kadi | Kokum Tival | Spicu Kokum Drink | Garcinia indica Recipes | Quick & Easy Tow Kokum Recipes
There are so many variations of Kokum kadi and Kokum tival but the one that I am showing is the one that I make that takes least amount of time to prepare.
I am showing the spicy version of kokum kadi & tival that I love. I generally drink Kokum Tival as an appetizer and Kokum kadi after dinner as a digestive drink.
You can also eat it with rice.
My most favorite combination is Fish Fry with Kokum kadi and hot rice.
Kokum has a lot of health benefits and incorporating it in your meals can do wonders. 🙂
Method & Ingredients:
15-16 Kokum petals
Quantity may vary depending on the strength of the kokum as well as the quantity you are making. I am making Tival & Kadi both so have taken large quantity and also my kokum is dried.
4 Large Garlic Cloves crushed
You can add more garlic if you prefer.
2 Green chillies
Cut into pieces
If you want it less spicy deseed the chillies.
1/ 4 Tsp Asafoetida (Hing)
This is optional for Kokum kadi but for Kokum Tival it is an important ingredient.
1/4 Tsp Brown Sugar
(Optional)
This amount doesn’t make the Tival/ Kadi sweet, it only enhances the flavors.
Salt to taste
Add little, you can adjust it later.
1.5 Cup boiling water
Mix well
Cover with lid for 15 mins.
Allow the kokum to soften and flavors to start infusing in water.
Open the lid, stir well and taste the water
Add hot water to balance the flavors.
Adjust salt if needed & stir well
Close the lid and allow to cool down.
Little chopped coriander
You can strain it if you prefer before adding the coriander.
Refrigerate it & allow it to chill.
Spicy Kokum Tival is ready to drink.
( Follow further steps for Kokum Kadi.)
Coconut cream / milk
(I prefer coconut cream as I like it a bit thick so I can eat it with rice. If you like it runny use coconut milk.
You can add more or less according to your taste.)
Stir well
(Adjust salt if needed.)
Strain the mixture
Little chopped coriander
NOTES & TIPS :
You can add more sugar if you prefer sweet flavor
You can use coconut milk if you are using the Kokum kadi as appetizer or a digestive drink but if you prefer a thicker version of kokum kadi then use coconut cream.
I use cans but you can use grated fresh coconut to make coconut milk & then use it to make Kokum / Sol kadi
Before straining the tival / kadi; nicely crush all the ingredients in it so , flavors are well infused.
You can also make a delicious chilled Kokum juice from Kokum.
Amazing health benefits; loaded with nutrients, eases acidity, improves digestion, beneficial for diabetics, helps in building immunity.
Hope you enjoy the video.🙂🙏
