In this video, I build my own welding cart.I recently bought my first TIG welder, but my old cart no longer had enough space. It was also built out of wood many years ago and had become quite worn over time. I needed a new, sturdy, and practical cart.
Since I didn’t like any of the standard welding carts available, I searched for inspiration and came across a video by Svens Werkstube. His welding cart immediately impressed me, and thanks to the plans he published, I was able to easily build my own version with a few small modifications.
I start by constructing the base frame and cutting all profiles to size. Since my small bandsaw cannot handle the larger profiles, I use an angle grinder to get everything to the correct dimensions. After that, I weld the complete base structure together.
Next, I drill all mounting points. The first pilot hole isn’t perfect, but fortunately I can correct it without any issues. I also fabricate four plates with M8 threads for the casters and weld them to the underside.
Then I assemble the main support beam and attach it to the base frame.
After that, I build the two levels for the welding machines. The 40 × 40 profiles need to be cut twice to fit through my saw. The top plates for the levels are made from six-millimeter thick aluminum and are mounted to the frame using rivnuts.
Next, I build the support for the gas bottles. I cut all the required profiles, weld the frame together, and install some rivnuts again.
I also build a small drawer from L-profile, where electrodes, collets, and other accessories can be stored. The drawer is installed, and the gas bottle support is fitted with a cover plate.
To organize hoses and cables, I make twelve sturdy hooks. I heat the flat bars with an induction heater to make them easier to bend and shape.
Before painting, I disassemble the entire cart and thoroughly clean all components. I then apply a primer and finish everything with a matte black topcoat. Finally, I reassemble the entire welding cart and equip it with both of my welding machines.
