Exploring an Massive Abandoned Silent Hill RAF Hospital In The Middle Of Nowhere

walking to the location through the trees and bushes it was getting very foggy and it was getting quite creepy by the feel of the hospital looming in front of you while you was walking towards it and you was noticing that there was trees rustling in the wind and when you got inside the hospital I got very overwhelmed with the mass of the long corridors just going on going and going at this point it must've been my largest hospital that I've ever explored

History

The hospital opened to patients on 1 November 1953. Construction of the hospital was completed in only 111 days. And built in a unique manner. There was an outer wide U-shaped ring of single-storey buildings and an inner ring of two-storey buildings. The outer ring mostly consisted of wards, outpatients and clinical areas. While the inner mostly contained the administrative and support services and a central kitchen area. They were connected by radial and spoke corridors that, with other areas, could be converted into wards in the event of major emergencies or conflict. The psychiatric ward, boiler house, stores, messes and personnel accommodation were separate from the main hospital building. During the 1990 Gulf War members of the hospital served in the Middle East, which strained hospital numbers so much so that they had to recruit civilian nurses and staff to fill the void. All members returned safely. In 1992 the British Government dictated the number of beds being reduced from 171 to 90 with the closure of the paediatric and special care baby units. Later the combination of the medical and surgical wards closed together with the maternity unit. The RAF hospital closed after 43 years as a general hospital. From 1995 a small in-patient psychiatric unit and some community services remained on the site while all other secondary care was transferred to local German hospitals. In 2010 the site was handed back to the German authorities. Sadly the once very grand building and complex it is a ruin.
