Building a Walnut Kitchen Island with Wine Rack

Watch how I make a walnut kitchen island with a wine rack in one end, a dishwasher and drawers along one side, and dimmable under cabinet LED lighting around the toe kick.

I used walnut for the island because I didn't want to overpower the kitchen with too much zebrawood. All of the base cabinets are zebrawood, and the island is made from 3/4" walnut plywood with extraordinary grain.

The island is about 32" x 51" and the quartz top is approximately 45" x 53". The top has only a 1" overhang on 3 sides because it was a very tight squeeze to be able to fit the range between the island and the sink cabinet to get it installed. It has a 12" overhang along the front and comfortably fits a couple of stools. The island has LED lighting along the toe kick, which gives it a cool look at night.
