Unecebo Mboteni was a lively three-year-old boy who enjoyed playing with his toy cars and making friends.
On 18 April 2024, Unecebo fell into a pit toilet at his day care centre in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province. He died the next day. More than a year on, his family still don’t have answers to how this tragic incident happened. According to the family, the incident is still being investigated and no one has been held accountable.
Instead of answers, Unecebo’s family have been met with silence.
Unecebo’s life was cut short in a place where he should have been safe.
