I have just started using canvas for my alcohol ink paintings and was looking for an alternative to resin. I found great information from forums, but I learn best from seeing for myself and thought others might find the same.
I used regular inexpensive canvas on which I used alcohol ink to create some simple paintings I would not upset about destroying.
My usual finishing on synthetic paper is 3 x Kamar Varnish + 3 x Krylon UV Archival. As al alternative get a shinier finish without using resin, I tried first 3x Rust-oleum Painters Touch Ultra Cover 2X, then on another canvas I brushed on 3 x Liquitex High Gloss Varnish.
I liked all three results. The Liquitex was the shiniest and closest to resin and would be better with one more coat on it. I guess the purpose and desired look for the canvas is going to determine which one I use.
Stay tuned for a similar comparison of finishes done for alcohol ink on synthetic paper glued to cradle board.
