A covenantal breakdown between God and His priestly people.
A) Serpent
“Cursed above all cattle”
= Judicial humiliation → Satan’s role removed; loss of influence in God’s priestly house.
B) Ground (adamah)
“The ground is cursed for your sake.”
Not the geological earth.
Hebrew adamah = the land of covenant → Israel’s holy space.
Meaning:
Access to sacred land is now painful, difficult.
Sanctuary relationship becomes obstructed.
C) Woman’s pain
Not biological childbirth—but “pain” (itzavon) = sorrow, struggle in raising covenant seed.“Seed” (zera) = covenant people; not biology.
D) Man’s labor
Thorns and thistles = obstacles in serving as priest in God’s sanctuary.
