Research & Innovations by Prof AS Paintal-

-During his MD (Physiology), he worked on Electric resistance of the skin in normal and in individuals with psychosis; and established Paintal Index.
-During his PhD, he Innovated techniques of dissection of single nerve fiber by use of liquid paraffin without impairing their activity, and contributed immensely to the science of nerve conduction.
-Coined the term ‘Fusimotor’ for the nerve fibres innervating the intrafusal fibres of muscle spindles.
-Discovery of J-receptors, recognized as the First Great Discovery in the Field of Medicine in India after Independence. Subsequently, linking J-reflex to J-receptors. Further characterized its reflext and sensory actions at seal level and high altitudes; and clinical relevance during exercise and in ARDS.
-Other sensory receptors: Type B atrial receptors; Gastric stretch receptors responsible for the immediate satiation of hunger; Ventricular pressure receptors; Mucosal mechanoreceptors of the intestines; and pressure pain receptors in health and disease state.
