What Really Happened Software Engineer Sharmila Case In Bangalore |Explained By number one kannada
In January 2026, Bengaluru police uncovered the murder of Sharmila D.K. (also known as Sharmila Kushalappa), a 34-year-old software professional at Accenture. Initially reported as a fatal fire accident, the case was reclassified as murder following forensic and technical investigations.
Case Details
Incident: On January 3, 2026, a fire broke out between 10:15 PM and 10:45 PM in Sharmila's rented apartment in Subramanya Layout, Ramamurthy Nagar.
Victim: Sharmila D.K., a native of Mangaluru who lived alone while her roommate was away.
Initial Findings: Firefighters found Sharmila unconscious near the kitchen; she was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. First responders suspected an electrical short circuit.
Breakthrough: Doubts arose due to visible struggle marks on Sharmila's hands. A post-mortem later confirmed she died of suffocation before the fire started, and forensic teams found no evidence of an electrical fault.
The Perpetrator and Motive
On January 10, 2026, police arrested Karnal Kurai, an 18-year-old pre-university (PUC) student who lived in the adjacent flat.
The Crime: According to police reports, Kurai entered the flat through a sliding window around 9:00 PM to seek sexual favors. When Sharmila resisted and asked him to leave, he allegedly smothered her until she lost consciousness.
Cover-up: Believing she was dead, Kurai allegedly collected clothes and other materials in a vacant bedroom and set them on fire to destroy evidence before fleeing with her mobile phone.
Legal Charges
The accused was produced in court and remanded to three days of police custody. He has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS):
Section 103(1): Murder.
Section 64(2) & 66: Related to sexual assault and causing death or persistent vegetative state.
Section 238: Destruction of evidence
