The Laojun Mountain is known as "the most sacred place in the world and the first fairy mountain in the world".
It is located 3,000 meters southeast of Luanchuan County, the ancient capital of Luoyang during the 13th dynasty . It is the main peak of the 800-li Funiu Mountain, a remnant of the Qinling Mountains, with an altitude of 2,200 meters. It was originally named Jingshi Mountain. It has a human history of more than 2,000 years and is the mountain with the longest history in Taoism.

During the Spring and Autumn Period, Laozi Li Er, who is generally recognized as the founder of Taoism , retired here to practice Taoism, making it the "Daoyuan" (the origin of Taoism) and the "Zuting" (the temple of the founder). The Northern Wei Dynasty began to build the Laojun Temple on it to commemorate him. In the 11th year of the Zhenguan Period of the Tang Dynasty (637), Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty sent Yuchi Jingde to rebuild the Tieding Laojun Temple on Jingshi Mountain and named it "Laojun Mountain". In the 31st year of the Wanli Period of the Ming Dynasty (1603), Emperor Shenzong of the Ming Dynasty issued an imperial decree to name Laojun Mountain "a famous mountain in the world" and allocated funds to build a temple. It became the only Chinese mountain in history to be named "a famous mountain in the world" by the emperor.

There are 6 scenic areas in Laojun Mountain, 179 scenic spots, 16 temples including Taiqing Palace , Shifang Courtyard , Lingguan Hall , Lincu Hall, Sheepfold , Jiuku Hall , Sutra Tower , Guanyin Hall , Sanqing Hall , Laojun Temple , etc. On the south side of Mazongling, there is a stone forest of more than 3,000 mu open to tourists, which is called "Northern Stone Forest" by geologists.

Laojun Mountain is now a World Geopark , a National AAAAA-level Tourist Attraction , a National Geopark , a National Nature Reserve , a Provincial Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a Provincial Scenic Spot, a Holy Place for Taoists in Northern China to Pay Homage, and an outstanding representative of the Central Plains landscape culture.

In 2014, the bronze statue of Laozi at Laojun Mountain was recorded by the Guinness World Records as the "World's Tallest Bronze Statue of Laozi". [5] It is also a popular filming location for contemporary fantasy films and TV series, such as " The Legend of Chusen " and " The Destiny of the Heavenly Emperor ".

老君山（The Laojun Mountain），“天下无双圣境，世界第一仙山”。[1]位于十三朝古都洛阳的栾川县县城东南三千米处。是秦岭余脉八百里伏牛山的主峰，海拔2200米，原名景室山。距今已有两千多年人文历史，是道教中历史最长的山脉。

春秋时期，被公认为道教始祖的老子李耳到此归隐修炼，使之成为“道源”（道教起源地）和“祖庭”（祖师之庭）。北魏始于其上建老君庙以纪念。唐贞观十一年（637年），唐太宗派尉迟敬德重修景室山铁顶老君庙，并赐名为“老君山”。明万历三十一年（1603年），明神宗诏谕老君山为“天下名山”，并发帑金建殿，成为是历史上唯一被皇封为“天下名山”的中国山

老君山景观区6处、有景点179个，太清宫、十方院、灵官殿、淋醋殿、牧羊圈、救苦殿、传经楼、观音殿、三清殿、老君庙等庙宇16处。马鬃岭南侧有三千余亩石林景观对游人开放，被地质学者称为“北国石林”。

老君山现为世界地质公园、国家AAAAA级旅游景区、国家地质公园、国家级自然保护区、省级重点文物保护单位、省级风景名胜区，中国北方道教信众拜谒圣地，中原山水文化杰出代表。

2014年，老君山老子铜像被世界基尼斯总部输录为 “大世界基尼斯之最——世界最高的老子铜像”。[5]亦是当代仙侠影视剧热门取景地，《诛仙·青云志》《天乩之天帝传说》等皆曾于此取景
