[HD] Santa Fe Bicentennial 5704 and Coaster F40PH 2105 Equipment Move from Commerce to Perris SCRM!

Here is a video chase of the BNSF R-CAL9021 "extra road switcher", the equipment move train, using 3 GP60M-3s, from the Commerce Diesel Facility across the BNSF San Bernardino Subdivision and Metrolink Perris Valley Subdivision to the Southern California Railway Museum in Perris, CA.

The SCRM recently acquired two pieces of equipment which were donated to them: Santa Fe SD45-2 5704 in the 1976 Bicentennial paint scheme donated by BNSF, and Coaster F40PHM-2C 2105 donated by YouTube user CoasterFan2105. The connector track construction in Perris has had a long hiatus, but at last on May 3, 2025, the temporary connection was built and the museum finally received the locomotives.

We start in Commerce, where a trio of BNSF EMD GP60M-3s enters the diesel facility and switches the museum engines around before entering the BNSF San Bernardino Subdivision mainline. We chase the Geeps pulling the museum power to Esperanza, Riverside, and Box Springs.

In Moreno Valley, at the Alessandro siding, the Geeps run around the F40 and SD45 to shove into Perris, meaning the ATSF 5704 briefly "leads" the movement into the museum in Perris. An SCRM work train is staged by the connector track, ready to receive its new engines. Both trains start over the sketchy connector track, and once the hook is made, the BNSF Geeps separate and head back to Moreno Valley, and the work train pulls the museum engines into the property.

We document the switching happening inside the museum and the engines being put away inside Barn 7, where restoration and maintenance work can occur. This was a once-in-a-lifetime chase, and many railfans from far and wide came to observe this historic move. Thanks for watching!
