Sandaoling Coal Mine is last place, not just in China, but in the world where a number (8) of steam locomotives work on a railway network. The other locations that are left, which you can count on the fingers of one hand, have just one locomotive for occasional shunting.
3 to 4 locomotives are used on the east pit merry-go-round. This may be increased as there is a proposal to use bigger wagons, which may require double-headers and bankers. But the number of workings may be reduced as a result.
Sandaoling Coal Mine is now due to close in 2020. And with it, the end of steam - probably.
