In this guitar lesson we’ll start from the definition of a I vi ii V turnaround in C major, a popular chord progression that you can find on the Real Book and in any genre. We’ll then combine various chord substitutions, from secondary dominants to tritone substitutions and diatonic substitutions to get 5 different levels of chord substitutions on guitar, from the a simple one to a chromatic cycle of dominants. This lesson is a good way to review important music theory and guitar theory concepts such as omit 5, shell voicings, chord numbers and more.
