How to Build a Van Wall Divider (Bulkhead) for Privacy, Insulation & Style | Ford Transit Camper Build

In this episode of my Ford Transit van conversion, I build and clad a full wall divider (or bulkhead) to separate the driver cab from the living area. This step adds crucial sound deadening, thermal insulation, and privacy, while also creating a strong mounting point for cabinetry and a custom flap to retain mirror visibility.

I’ll walk you through the full process — from wall framing with pine battens, installing rivnuts for a solid anchor, stuffing with Earthwool insulation, and cladding both sides with pine lining boards. I also add plywood lower panels, install a light switch, and finish the divider with paint, putty, and a hinged visibility flap wrapped in decorative rattan webbing.

If you're building a campervan and need to divide your cab from your living space, this is one of the cleanest DIY methods out there.
