On December 13, the Church celebrates the heroic and miraculous life of Saint Lucy, the Virgin and Martyr of Syracuse. Her name, meaning "Light," foreshadowed her mission: to be a light of unshakable faith in the darkness of persecution. Tradition recounts that, to preserve her consecration to Christ, she tore out her own eyes and sent them to an insistent suitor, having her sight restored in an even more beautiful way by a miracle of God. For this reason, she is invoked as the patron saint of sight, the blind, and ophthalmologists. Her life is a beacon of purity, courage, and divine trust.
