When I talked to my students about the boards I was making, one of the alternative ones suggested I do one in the form of a coffin. Since I am always up for a challenge and wanted to do a more intricate inlay, I created this board. The board is made from black walnut, the inlay is maple, the eyes and skull are red heart.
00:00 - Cutting out the board.
00:19 - Cutting the hole for the moth.
02:50 - Cleanup.
03:48 - Cutting the plug - Maple.
05:12 - Gluing.
06:00 - Bookpress shenanigangs - 500kgs of force.
06:23 - Cutting the eyes and skull.
07:49 - Planing down the primary inlay.
08:32 - Cutting the holes for eyes and skull.
09:17 - Gluing eyes and skull.
09:36 - Planing down the eyes and skull (milling red heart just looks soooo goood!!!)
10:32 - Rough sanding.
11:00 - More sanding. Now by hand.
11:33 - Cutting the juice groove.
12:02 - Mineral oil. Hngh.
12:22 - Waxing.
12:49 - Final polish.
13:22 - Finished product.
