Time to say goodbye to Yalena Yardeen and John Jaqobis.

I already miss them. I can't believe I've lost Joan/Sherlock and Dutch/Johnny in a two month period. Where will I get my platonic life partners fix now huh

I gotta be honest and say S5 kinda did them dirty. First with all that unnecessary drama which could've been solved in like one episode. And then having so few scenes of them. But. I still love them dearly, and I'm so very grateful for everything they represent.

A well-rounded relationship, where two characters are allowed to be flirty and even romantic with each other AND still platonic, where they are are each other's anchor and emotional tether without the requirement of 'being in love'.

I guess they are a little bit in love with each other, but in the most trascendental purest form. Not to say that they are an abstract ideal. Far from it, they are allowed to be flawed, very much so, to have a different point of view, and misunderstandings. But they always come out the other side stronger, and closer, and better. It was never about codependency with them. It was always about mutual support, and incouranging each other to be their own person; to save each other, yes, but let each other grow, even apart.

Because no matter if or for how long they need space between them, they always have a safety net of unconditional love should they fall. That's the beauty of 'We don't have to stay here, we just can fly away'. It's a promise, to leave everything behind at a moment's notice, to run away when it all becomes too much, to be free of their pasts and their burdens. They would have been ready to do that for each other, had one of them asked. It was the saftest escapist fantasy, the comforting fairy tale they lulled each other with.

Even if they knew they were never actually going to run away. Even if they knew they were going to make a stand and fight the good fight, because it was the right thing to do, because they had each other's back anyway. And because running away never solved anything, and they learned that. I loved the ending where Dutch tells John to go and find what he's looking for but then, eventually, to bring it back. Home, where she is. It's confirmation of everything they are. They are free to wander the galaxy and live the most adventurous rogue lives they can dream up, but they also need a costant. Something steadfast, and unwavering. Gravity, Dutch would say. And that's what they are to each other.
I'll always have the fondest memories of them. Closest to my heart.

Ps. Im gonna miss Aaron's and Hannah's beautiful damn faces.
