Most Important Scouting Job - Eagle Scout October Status Update

Hey guys, Mac Guzman here. In this October Status Update I explain the most important youth leadership role in Scouting. I talk about the responsibilities of Senior Patrol Leader and how to chose a Boy-led Troop. Now that I have relinquished my SPL position, I talk about why planning important in Scouts BSA (a.k.a. Boy Scouts). I attempt to answer the following questions:

As you know, in February 2019 I made a goal of earning Eagle Scout in 2 years (exactly 24 months). Here is an overview of my status in the new Scouts BSA:

Rank: Star Scout at Camp La-No-Che and had my Board Of Review there
Elections have finished, so I am aiming for ASPL
Left old troop, and looking for a new one
Not in charge anymore, so I can focus on myself
No Merit Badges, but working on 6
Been training younger scouts to fill my shoes
5/7 Scout Ranks
5/16 Leadership positions
17/21 Merit Badges (MB)

Responsibilities of SPL
Runs all troop meetings, events, activities, and the annual program planning conference.
Runs the Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) meetings.
Appoints other troop junior leaders with the advice and counsel of the Scoutmaster.
Assigns duties and responsibilities to junior leaders.
Assists the Scoutmaster with junior leader training.
Sets a good example.
Enthusiastically and correctly wears the Scout uniform (all four parts).
Lives by the Scout Oath and Law.
Shows Scout spirit.

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) includes Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts), Venturing, Sea Scouts, and Exploring. The BSA has 2.4 million youth participants and nearly one million adult volunteers. For the first time in its 100+ year history, Boy Scouts is open to both young men and young women aged 11-17. The BSA National Council is classified by the IRS as a 501(c)3 non-profit and qualifies as a charitable organization.

Scout Oath: "On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight."

Scout Law: "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent."

Outdoor Code: "As an american, I will do my best, to be clean in my outdoor manners, to be careful with fire, to be considerate in the outdoors, and be conservation minded"

Scout Mission: "The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law."
