Ian McShane was 'Lovejoy': antiques dealer with a propensity toward getting involved in various adventures. Sounds a bit like 'The Baron', but while both were British series, 'Lovejoy' was a lot more British with its scenic countryside and quirky characters. Plus a strong vein of humor ran through the episodes. Oddly the show ran for one season in 1986 then returned in 1991 for five more years. The whimsical theme is by Denis King ('Adventures of Black Beauty') who revealed he had written it years earlier. 'It was a piece of music I’d written for a series about a schoolteacher called “The Drummonds” which had been rejected. The old composer’s adage holds true: never waste a good tune.' You'll hear the original first season arrangement, plus a later revision which also added stereo sound.
