👉 You know it’s okay NOT to do DIALYSIS ❌ 🏥.
One of the unsaid truths about #kidney care is that we often put too many elderly or end of life people on #dialysis.

Often times, what I have seen is that we put them through unneeded suffering, rather than just acknowledge the inevitable.
Our goal in medicine is to preserve quality of life, not just to prolong it by any means necessary.

I describe my thoughts on why I think this happens, one of which is something I call a "bias to treat".

A bias to treat on the part of....
Physicians - wanting to help or rotely placing orders
Patient - out of a fear of death
Family member - out of guilt

Alot of this could be prevented by having a proper meeting with a patient and family members, to establish advanced directives.
