This PowerRain machine was still running sometime in the past few months, but unfortunately, it’s now out of service. Since proprietary parts are no longer available, there’s a real possibility it may never wash another car again—definitely a disappointing sight.
This model was one of only a small handful installed in Northern Minnesota between 2001 and 2003. As far as I know, this may be the last surviving unit. Another machine of the same type was installed at a BP station in Superior, WI, back in January 2002, but that site has long since disappeared.
From what I can see without it running, the machine features a long manifold spray bar on the sides and top, which oscillates. The top boom has a decommissioned hydraulic motor, though it doesn’t seem entirely necessary given how closely spaced the nozzles are.
This machine is currently located in Aurora, MN.
