Colonel, United States Marine Corps (Retired)
Colonel Gann enlisted in the Selected Marine Corps Reserve in January 1983 serving with Oscar 5/14 (later reflagged as Fox 2/14) and attaining the rank of Sergeant. He graduated from Wichita State University in May 1989 and accepted a commission as a Second Lieutenant.
Designated as an artillery officer, he served on active duty for over 30 years and executed a myriad of operational assignments including tactical command of a battery, battalion, and regiment. Additionally, he completed a three-year exchange tour with the US Army’s XVIII Airborne Corps, and a tour in support of the Defense Department’s worldwide effort to recover US service members missing from our Nation’s past conflicts. He is authorized to wear the Navy and Marine Corps Parachutist Insignia and holds a Master of Strategic Studies from the US Army War College.
During his career, Colonel Gann participated in numerous operational deployments including the Persian Gulf, Bangladesh, Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He also completed (2) six-month unit rotations to Okinawa, Japan. His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star (2), the Meritorious Service Medal (3), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
Colonel Gann retired from the Marine Corps on January 1, 2019 after 35+ years of honorable and faithful service.
