Houdini 21 – New MPM Solver Playground

Houdini 21 drops a huge update with the brand-new MPM (Material Point Method) solver, and I couldn’t resist stress-testing it in the most ridiculous way possible 😅.

The sim I built here isn’t about production polish — it’s pure fun, chaos, and experimentation — but it shows just how powerful the new features are:

🔹 Solver features – auto resimulation, deterministic particle-to-grid mapping, new collision handling, and both point-based and grid-based surface tension.
🔹 Source & Collider controls – continuous particle emission, velocity controls, deforming collider interpolation, and per-voxel stickiness & friction.
🔹 Post-processing – MPM Surface SOP for clean meshing, debris extraction for secondary sims, and fracture/deformation tools for destruction workflows.
🔹 Neural Point Surfacing – AI-driven surfacing to rebuild VDBs with smooth yet detailed shapes.

All bundled into an MPM Shelf for quick setup and iteration.
