We Hiked Deep into the Rainforest - Thought the Water Was Too Dirty Then the Gold Started Showing Up

In this episode, Leon and I set off on a mission into the heart of a remote rainforest creek, tucked away in Northern New South Wales. The plan was simple: follow the water upstream and snipe for gold — but as soon as we got there, we realised things might not go to plan. The water was way dirtier than we expected, stirred up from recent rains, and visibility was almost zero in some spots. Not exactly ideal conditions for gold sniping...

But we weren’t turning back.

We pushed on, hiking through some absolutely stunning terrain, surrounded by lush green rainforest, cascading waterfalls, and crystal-clear side pools that gave us just enough hope to keep going. Eventually, we found pockets of water clear enough to work, and that’s when things started to turn around. Bit by bit, the gold started to show — and not just flakes. Some nice chunky pieces made their way into the snuffer bottle, making the mission 100% worth it.

This trip was a solid reminder that persistence pays off. Even when conditions aren’t perfect, and you’re second-guessing whether it’s worth continuing — the gold might just be one more bend away.
