My friend Col, loneliness, kindness - and hugs

I met my 81 year old friend Col when he came up to me at Redhead beach NSW
car park - where I was using the cold showers and toilets - last year

He feels he is my protector and is like a grandfather, knows a lot of people in his suburb

In July I left Newcastle after 6 months there with my Mum and Col goes to Coolum Beach for holidays each winter, so we met up when I got there and he took me to lunch each week until he flew back home to Newcastle .
He insists on paying for lunch, regularly winning on horse races, a hobby he has had for decades

I love peoples stories
I love hugging, as anyone who has met me knows
My close friends are also long huggers 💜

I have taught my 90 year old mother to accept and embrace my long hugs - she has needed a lot of hugs recently, moving out of her home of around 65 years into a retirement village hasn’t been easy for her
I am here to support and help her with whatever she needs while she gets used to her new life
