Message Series: The Exodus Story
This video, part of the "Your Exodus Story" series, focuses on the Israelites' journey from Egypt to the promised land, drawing parallels to how God guides individuals from darkness to purpose (0:02).
Pastor John Faleye highlights key takeaways from previous parts of the series and introduces the concept of the "season of waiting" (0:36):
God's Purpose and Trials: God calls individuals out of their old ways to align with His will and purpose (0:30). He uses trials to shift hearts, build faith, display His glory, and ultimately fulfill His purpose (1:19). Challenges are opportunities for growth and dependence on Christ (2:49).
The Waiting Season (Exodus 15:22-27): The Israelites' journey into the wilderness of Shur after the Red Sea miracle illustrates a season of waiting (3:36). Despite miraculous deliverance, they faced a bitter water supply at Marah and grumbled (5:01). This experience highlights that waiting is an opportunity for God to refine and develop us (13:00).
The Psychology of Waiting: Drawing a parallel to a Houston airport anecdote (7:16), the speaker explains that the duration of waiting is less important than what one does while waiting (9:19). Unoccupied time feels longer and leads to complaints, whereas occupied time is more tolerable (9:37).
Three Truths in Waiting:
Stretching Our Trust: Waiting seasons test our resolve to trust God (17:23). God is inherently good and worthy of our trust in both big and small needs (19:50). We should not fear or be dismayed during these times because God is with us (21:47).
Purifying Inner Motives: Complaints during waiting reveal self-centered motives (23:05). God uses these seasons to expose desires not aligned with His will (25:07). The goal is to seek God for who He is, not just for what He can do (23:51).
Deepening Devotion and Resilience: Hardship can reveal shallow devotion (27:40). Waiting seasons are opportunities to renew devotion, strengthen resolve, and develop unconditional love for God (28:45). This leads to a steady, spirit-led dependence on Him and builds resilience (30:27).
The sermon concludes with an encouragement to occupy waiting time with obedience (31:44), trust God to work through ordinary means (32:25), and give thanks for promises even before they are fulfilled (33:04), emphasizing that God is always working and faithful (33:52). The speaker also offers a prayer for those seeking to surrender their lives to Christ (34:42).
