Sikali dance is a famous dance celebrated in Khokna in the Lalitpur Valley. The goddess called Sikali is Siddhikali and she is also Rudrayani, who is the power of Shiva.

There are many legends about the Sikali temple. According to one legend, once Jyapu, the priest of Pachali Bhairav, fell ill with a fever, and all his relatives thought he was dead and took him to the Pachali cemetery for cremation. When the priest Jyapu was about to put him on the pyre and light the fire, a sudden wind and heavy rain extinguished the fire given to the priest on the pyre. Immediately, the river flooded and swept away the body of the Jyapu priest. The Guthiyars who had gone to Malami also fled in panic. The unconscious body of Jyapu was carried away by the river and thrown far away on the bank of the river. A moment later, when Jyapu came to Hos, he was very scared and called out to the meditator Maju. Dhyanacho Maju came in the form of a cow and gave her darshan. Dhyanacho Maju saved the devotee Jyapu, who had just recovered from fever and was hungry, by taking the form of a cow and feeding him with her milk. Then the goddess, who took the form of a cow, gave her true form to Jyapu and said, “I am none other than Dhyanacho Maju. I have come here for you. Since you did not have time to die, I saved you even though you were already placed on the pyre. Now that you have been placed on the pyre, you should not return to your home. Make a new settlement here and live. You will be well. Look, although I live as a Buddhist goddess according to the sect, I am also Rudrayani, who is a part of Shiva Shakti.” Saying this, the goddess showed her Rudrayani form. The goddess, who has four white arms, has a damaru in her upper right hand, a trident in her right hand, and a kalapa patra and bhav mudra in her lower hands. Seeing the supernatural goddess dressed in white, adorned with various kinds of precious ornaments and riding a horse, the Jyapu falls at the feet of the goddess and then the goddess meditates there. The place where the goddess gave darshan to the Jyapu is Sikali Khya, which is old Khokana and is currently located a little further down the river from Khokana. A very large stone, which is said to be the stone of the goddess, is still there. The Jyapus of Khokana also perform ancestral worship here. This is the place where their ancestral deity, Sikali, i.e. Siddhikali, in the form of Rudrayani, is worshipped, hence the name Sikali Khya. According to the Jyapus of Khokana, Jyapu, the priest of Pachali Bhairav, established a settlement here by crying and telling his story, and it is said that it was named Khona or Khokana.
