NYU Trailblazers are TED Talk-style mini lectures from NYU's illustrious faculty. Don't miss this lecture from Dr. Cammie Kim Lin, “You Are What You Eat: The Intersection of Gastronomy and Identity.”
Anthropologists, historians, and nutritionists alike have long expressed some version of the claim “You are what you eat.” Professor Cammie Kim Lin, a food writer and educator, will explore the multifaceted role gastronomy plays in who we are—a concept especially relevant to young adults preparing to make their own decisions about what they eat and who they want to be.
Dr. Cammie Kim Lin is a Clinical Associate Professor of Writing at NYU Liberal Studies, where she teaches first-year writing, food writing, food studies, and critical service learning. A recipient of the NYU Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Faculty Award, she is the faculty advisor for the Liberal Studies Service Ambassadors and The Violet Pantry, a student-run food pantry. Her research on education and pedagogy has been widely published in scholarly journals and edited volumes. Her food writing has been published in The Washington Post and Eater.com, and she is the co-author of the IACP Award-winning young adult cookbook, Serious New Cook: Recipes, Tips, and Techniques.
