চারদিকে সবুজে ঘেরা, মাঝখানে এক বিশাল বাঁশঝাড়। সেখান থেকেই উঁকি দিচ্ছে বক, পানকৌড়ি, দোয়েল, শালিক, ঘুঘুসহ আরও অনেক পরিচিত পাখি। এ যেন এক জীবন্ত অভয়ারণ্য। শত বছরেরও বেশি সময় ধরে পাখিরা এই জায়গাটিকে নিরাপদ আশ্রয় ভেবে বেছে নিয়েছে। আর সেই পাখিরাই বদলে দিয়েছে গ্রামের নাম। আগে ছিল 'পশ্চিম ডাঙ্গাপাড়া'—এখন সবাই চেনে 'পাখির গ্রাম' নামে।
নীলফামারী জেলা শহর থেকে ৪৪ কিলোমিটার দূরে ডোমার উপজেলার সীমান্তবর্তী এলাকা চিলাহাটি। শহর থেকে প্রায় তিন কিলোমিটার আঁকা বাঁকা পথ পেরিয়ে যেতে হয় এই গ্রামে। এই শান্ত গ্রামের এক প্রান্তে ২০ শতক জায়গা জুড়ে রয়েছে বিশাল বাঁশঝাড়। আর এখানেই গড়ে উঠেছে পাখিদের বসবাস। এই বাঁশঝাড়ের মালিক মাজেদুল ইসলামও বাস করেন বাঁশঝাড়ের নিচেই। তাঁর কথায় জানা গেল, দাদার সময় থেকেই এখানে পাখিরা আসে।

Surrounded by greenery on all sides, a huge bamboo grove in the middle. From there, many familiar birds including the hawk, the jay, the dove, the dove, and many others are peeping out. This is like a living sanctuary. For more than a hundred years, birds have chosen this place as a safe haven. And those birds have changed the name of the village. Earlier it was 'West Dangapara' - now everyone knows it as 'Bird Village'.
