The Australian bass, Richard Curtin, was born in Canberra and enjoyed an impressive international career. He sang more than seventy operatic roles, including Don Alfonso, Sarastro, Don Basilio, Ramphis, Rocco, Hunding, Kaspar, Padre Guardiano, Sparafucile and the Grand Inquisitor, in cities as diverse as Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt, Paris, Danzig, Moscow, Zurich, Sydney and Melbourne. We hear him here as Zuniga in the Act II Finale of Bizet's CARMEN from the Hamburgische Staatsoper. His on-stage colleagues include Hanna Schwarz and Wladimir Atlantov as Carmen and Don José. Yoko Kawahara and Olive Fredricks are Frasquita and Mercédès, and Frieder Stricker and Carl Schultz sing Remendado and Dancaïre. Jacques Delacote conducts this performance from January 12th 1982.
