On a gloomy day, I found myself in the town of Putnam, at a small local supermarket lost in time. As it turns out, they are one of the few places in CT with a Tx2-series RVM. It's also in unusually good shape and was a real treat to use - it was the fastest and smoothest Tx2 I've used in probably a decade and a half. This store is also very good about what they will accept, including all of the major CT store brands. Obviously it's not perfect programming, but it is way better than most stores I've been to.
This machine appears to be nearly factory fresh, despite the counter having over 2 million containers counted. The ticket number was also very low for a machine of that age, which leads me to believe that it has been completely rebuilt several times over the years and also recently. This is the second T-62 I've ever seen that actually shreds, and the shredder works perfectly compared to the one at Country Marketplace. There are obvious signs of care towards this machine, including various signage and instructions on daily cleaning and maintenance.
I can only describe the rollers as "aggressive", as a lot of my bottles were being pulled to the left of the scanning region and resting against the sorter. Normally this is a non-issue, but it did lead to a 3oz Bang shot and a crushed water bottle to be sacrificed to the Tomra overlords...thankfully while the sorter was set to the plastic bin. This machine seems to have a larger sorter gap compared to other Tx2s I've used. Side note, I think the barcodes on the 3oz Bangs are too small to be read by Tx2s.
Regarding the "Not Aluminum" messages, I wonder if this machine has a metal detector, which was an option available for Tx2s back in the day. I could see an erratic or faulty detector giving a false positive for aluminum cans. This would also make this machine the first Tx2 I've used with a metal detector.
This visit has been full of firsts, as I've also not seen the warning message from the beginning of the video. This is apparently due to the battery of the UPS (uninterruptible power supply) needing replacement. I was not aware that RVMs had UPSs, but apparently most models have them.
Strangely enough, bottle slips here are entered manually via the amount of bottles redeemed, rather than the refund amount.
This store is pretty far away from me, so unfortunately I will not be able to visit often.
Also note that juices, sports drinks, coffee, tea, and other beverages have been added to the CT bottle bill, I think this is the first video of mine demonstrating such containers going through an RVM.
