Jhulan in Hindi or Bengali means Swing, used to adore Lord Krishna in Janmastami which is the Birthday of the Amighty. Like new born kids Lord Krisna is also said to like swings.
.
.
In Bengal, and Eastern India Jhulan was celebrated by the kids for almost a 15 days before Janmastami. The kids used to decorate the Lord Krishna abode with small items like mud figurines of people, cattle and animals. And worship the Lord Krishna's birth during Janmastami. Gradually in some homes it was decorated and presented very nicely and almost every household used to celebrate this time.
.
.
But day by day Jhulan is loosing it's significance. People are more busy with their works and family, kids have more study pressure and mobile phones are killing more time for all the age groups. So we are not finding much time and eagerness to do these Jhulan celebration.
.
.
In Bhadrswar, a small village in the outskirts of Bengal, we found that Jhulan us still being celebrated by many households, with whatever small things they could gather and decorate. So we tried to capture and present the flavour in front of all of you.
