Travel Day to Antibes France Long Eurail Journey with Kids

We’re three weeks into the trip and today is a huge travel day from Paris to Antibes in the French Riviera. First thing this morning we went back to the train station to try and get Eurail seats for tomorrow because we couldn’t book anything online. It took a lot of back and forth in broken English and French, and somehow we ended up with a ticket to a completely different city and instructions to buy more tickets once we get there. Not ideal, but this is travel.

We packed up the apartment, grabbed the girls, and headed back to the train station to start the long ride to Antibes. This trip is three separate trains with two transfers, about eight hours total, and we are carrying every piece of luggage we own. The girls were tired but handled it well, and the first train from Paris to Nîmes was surprisingly comfortable. Big seats, quiet cars, free internet, snacks, and room for the kids to watch movies. We stocked up on food last night so everyone had fruit pouches, crackers, and snacks ready to go.

Somewhere between the French countryside and Nîmes, I had that moment where a trip hits you. Sitting on a train, watching the countryside fly by, kids happy, playlist on, and just feeling lucky to be here. Traveling full time with small kids is hard. The meltdowns in the middle of train stations, the sprinting between platforms, the broken suitcase, the candy-for-dinner moments. But I wouldn’t trade any of it.

After switching trains in Nîmes and then again in Marseille, we finally made it onto the last train to Antibes. We squeezed into one of those tiny vestibule compartments that felt exactly like the trains I backpacked on in 2005. Two and a half more hours and we rolled into Antibes.

We grabbed a cab to our Airbnb and this place is incredible. We’re here for an entire week and we finally have a washer again. The girls love the space, we love the location, and we immediately headed out to find food and stock up on water.
