Painting a beach scene from the beautiful town of St Tropez. I start with a simple sketch of the boats and the buildings behind them. Then I start painting the sky and the warm buildings using yellow ochre and a little bit of burnt sienna. For the water I use cerulean blue and cobalt blue. I also use some alizarin crimson for the red parts of the boats. In the dark shadows I use some neutral tint to make the colors look deep. At the very end I use some white paint for the bright highlights on the water and the boats.
My way of painting is quite loose and fast. I do not like to put in too many small details. I want the painting to feel fresh and full of sun. I hope you enjoy watching me paint this today.
