Pikes Peak Marathon 2019: Kilian Jornet & Maude Mathys!

The Pikes Peak Marathon 2019 edition is now in the books here in Colorado, on the 64th running of this incredible high altitude mountain race. What a great weekend of mountain racing by all competitors, from the elites like Kilian Jornet, Sage Canaday, and Maude Mathys, to those who are just making their mark in the sport of mountain running. The Pikes Peak Marathon course record FELL today, but not on the men’s side, rather on the women’s side of the Pikes Peak race, by the Swiss runner, Maude Mathys, who absolutely shattered the old course record by over 12 minutes! What an incredible effort in the Pikes Peak Marathon by Maude Mathys, I was very impressed with her climbing capabilities. And on the men’s side of the Pikes Peak Marathon mountain race, I was very excited to finally see Kilian Jornet run in person, who is from Spain and the Salomon Running crew over in France. Kilian Jornet topped out on top in 2:09.15 and finished off the day just under 3 hours and 30 minutes, about 14 minutes back from Matt Carpenter’s Pikes Peak Marathon course record from 1993. Matt Carpenter’s course record will fall….someday….? All records are meant to be broken, but this Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon course record may have a few more years or even decades left in it. Overall the Pikes Peak Marathon race results from 2019 were very impressive from Kilian Jornet and Maude Mathys, all the way down to the final finisher. Congratulations everyone on heroic efforts out there on Pikes Peak, see you next year…. Butter my bread!
