Sakurajima Volcano, one of Japan’s most active volcanoes located on Kyushu Island, has erupted once again. Early this morning, around 11:30 AM local time, a powerful eruption occurred, sending ash more than 5 kilometers into the sky. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, increased seismic activity had been observed in the area over the past few days. Local authorities have issued a Level 3 alert (on a scale of 5) and are strongly urging residents in nearby areas to take safety precautions. So far, there have been no reports of injuries or damage. However, in the city of Kagoshima, located near the volcano, tremors were felt and volcanic ash is visibly settling on the streets. Flights in the region have been temporarily suspended. Sakurajima is an active stratovolcano that has erupted regularly over the past decades. Authorities and scientists continue to monitor the situation closely. Residents and tourists are advised to avoid areas near the crater and wear masks outdoors to protect themselves from volcanic ash.
