How Do You Get A Data Science Mentor?

Getting a mentor is a process. Start by learning about the person you want to guide you. Look at what they have published online because most of your basic questions are already answered in their blogs and videos.

Next, start the conversation via email, comments, DMs, or LinkedIn connection request. Connect with them and that means start by talking about them then moving on to talk about yourself. Remember that connections are 2 way and not centered on 1 person.

Ask permission. Before diving in, ask if the person is open to answering some questions. Be respectful of their time and boundaries.

After a few exchanges, then ask if they are willing to talk 1on1 and provide you with guidance.
