Used by hand knitters ("backwards loop") and flatbed knitters, the e-wrap cast on is old as the hills. Here you'll see how to do this easy and versatile cast-on with both a slotted and a non slotted yarn carrier. I show all 60 needles being cast on in the first part, and a variation -- where I have removed every 4th needle -- in the second part.
From an e-wrap cast-on you can transition easily to stockinette, or transfer some stitches to a ribbing pattern, e.g. 2x2. Mock ribbing is easy to start using this cast-on -- no transferring of stitches!
Socks were cranked on my 60/60 combo using medium tension; e-wrap cast-on all 60 needles; swap to 2x2 ribbing
30 rows of 2x2 for the cuff
60 rows of stockinette for the leg
standard heel
62 rows for the foot without the heel spring engaged
Yarn used -- hand-dyed Madeline Tosh "The Wildlings"
