Magnet Gripper Crane for Unloading Test Parts from Large Plasma Tables

Ergonomic Partners developed this custom magnet gripper tool and gantry crane to efficiently position, load, and unload sample steel parts from a 200-foot-long laser test bed. The crane system features a VFD-controlled motorized gantry crane with end trucks that ride on floor-mounted ASCE rail. The air-actuated magnet gripper tool is suspended from a 2-speed VFD-controlled motorized trolley with laser positioning and manual 90-degree rotation. The crane's bridge is cantilevered on one side to allow the parts to be positioned away from the laser table and allow operators to unload or load the parts with a portable work cart. The system is controlled with a radio remote control that includes magnet up/down and on/off buttons, an E-stop, magnet trolley east/west buttons, and crane bridge north/south buttons. The magnet gripper system uses two independent anti-drop safety systems, two interlocking buttons depressed simultaneously, and a third independent button that ensures operators from accidentally releasing the steel parts in mid-air.
