Taschlich
What is taschlich? Taschlich is a Jewish tradition where people go to a body of water and throw bread, stones or other things into the water. It is based on Micah 7:19 which says,
He will again have compassion on us,
He will subdue our iniquities.
You will throw all their sins
into the depths of the sea.
Is that a nice thought?
So between Rosh HaShana (The Feast of Trumpets) and Yom Kippur, we take time to search our hearts, and “throw our sins” and shortcomings of the last year into the water.
We know that Yeshua forgives our sins. But Tashlich teaches us to search our hearts, to look at our sins and to feel responsible for our sins and make an effort to do better.
