Though Dr. No is one of the most iconic villains in the Bond franchise his book versions even more terrifying. In the work we learn about the character and we discover everything you need to Dr. No.

The villain was born




Welcome to the heavy spoilers show, i'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down Dr. No.

The 1962 classic kickstarted it all and it began cinemas longest running franchise. Introducing us to Bond...James Bond...the movie gave the worlds it's quintessential spy. Even to this day I still think the 007 franchise demonstrates the best handling of a property in Hollywood. They haven't made a million different tv shows and tried to milk it for money...penny.

However that wasn't always the case and initially they tried to launch a James Bond TV show. 

Now Fleming penned the novel Casino Royale in 1953. Described as a first rate thriller by the manchester guardian its a brilliant book that I definitely recommend. It really sets the ground work for whats to come and he created a character that became an instant legend.

But why didn't they make this the characters first film?

Well that in itselfs a big story I wanna talk about before we break down the movie. Now you might remember that we announced we were covering the franchise back in October. The reason that its taken so long to get to this is because Dr. No isn't the second or even the third book. Releasing sixth in Flemings run I had to read through those other five before tackling this. Though you can do most of them in any order the latter books sometimes refer to earlier things.

Now Dr. No being the first movie is all down to a complicated rights process.

In 1954 CBS paid Fleming a thousand dollars to adapt that first book. Casino Royale would be a one hour episode that would launch as part of their Climax series. Starring Barry Nelson as James Bond the show had him as an American Agent. In a nationality swap, Felix was the brit with Petter Lorre playing Le Chiffre.
