Safi is the director of the Duke Islamic Studies Center and a Professor of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. Sargut is the president of the Turkish Women's Cultural Association.
Sargut visited Duke University in October 2015 and participated in several public events. Her visit was sponsored by the Duke Islamic Studies Center.
