ANESTHESIOLOGIST REACTS to the Nurse Radonda Vaught VERDICT | license stripped, yes—but jailtime?

She made HUGE errors that cost a patient their life. She reported the mistake to everyone she was supposed to just as we are taught to do Her license was rightfully stripped and she is no longer a nurse. But does that mean it deserves jailtime? My real-time reaction to her verdict reading and a frank discussion about the implications this will have on healthcare moving forward.

Anyone who is a healthcare worker will tell you: "This could be me. This could horrifyingly have happened to me. I am Radonda Vaught." Anyone who claims they could never make this mistake is either 1) not in healthcare, or 2) in denial. #iamradonda

The medication error was initially covered up by the hospital, but an anonymous source uncovered the mistake. Interestingly enough, Vanderbilt immediately shifted blame to RN RaDonda Vaught, who had been working with investigators the whole time.

Mistakes in healthcare , especially those that result in a death, are seriously dealt with by healthcare systems and boards of medicine and nursing....but should it be prosecuted as a crime? What about the system of checks and safety protocols that clearly failed a nurse in a healthcare system that has suffered through 2 years of a pandemic, stressed staffing ratios, burnout, and more.
