Andre Kostelanetz made a series of 'Opera for Orchestra' LPs in the 1950s which sold like hot cakes, presumably bought by people who liked opera tunes but without all that singing! Nowadays such recordings are a thing of the past but for those who might like to sing along (if they know the words, that is) without competing with other voices, Kostelanetz's concept would be ideal. Here is his take on Act 1 of "La Traviata," played by an orchestra of top New York musicians, probably from the Philharmonic-Symphony.
