Parliament returned for a rare Saturday session to pass an emergency law aimed at stopping the closure of British Steel’s Scunthorpe plant.
Sir Keir Starmer said the law would allow the Government to take control and prevent the Chinese owner from shutting the blast furnaces and said full nationalisation is possible, with “all options” still on the table.
Talks have been ongoing after owner Jingye deemed the furnaces financially unviable.
