Sri Lanka Flood Horror: 159 Dead, Thousands Displaced After Cyclone Ditwah | News9

Sri Lanka is battling one of its worst flood disasters in years as the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah leaves entire towns submerged.
Officials confirm 159 deaths and over 203 people missing after relentless rains triggered massive flooding and landslides across the country.

In Gampaha, families walked through knee-deep water as homes, shops, and roads disappeared under rising flood levels. With power lines down and communication cut in many areas, volunteer groups have set up makeshift kitchens to feed stranded families.

Residents like 40-year-old Malika Kumari describe three days of non-stop rain that left “everything underwater,” despite early warnings.

Authorities say more than 500,000 people have been affected nationwide, and water levels in Colombo and nearby districts continue rising as floodwaters move downstream.

Meteorological officials warn that more rain is expected over the weekend, raising fears of new floods in already saturated regions.
