A compromise between the firepower of a machine gun and the accuracy and portability of a rifle; the Browning Automatic Rifle, better known as the M1918 BAR, was designed to solve the trench stalemate the First World War devolved into. Its story transcended the war it was designed for though, and the BAR would see combat up until the height of the so-called Cold War - becoming a more understated legend in firearm lore, but a legend nonetheless. From the fields of France to the jungles of the Pacific islands, the BAR served valiantly for half a century, and the tale that accompanies John Browning's ahead of its time rifle is nothing short of fascinating.
